The Washington girls had to fight past conference rival Mt. Pleasant for the title, scoring 151 points to Mt. Pleasant’s 121.33. The boys scored 98, outlasting a very evenly-matched field.

WASHINGTON — The Burlington boys soccer team launched 20 shots on goal at Washington goalkeeper Kaden Read on Thursday night, but not one of them found the back of the net. The Demon senior stood on his head in net, saving 17 shots and leading Washington to a 1-0 Southeast Conference win, despite getting outshot by an incredible margin of 20-4. “It was hectic,” Read said after the win.

DONNELSON — Friday night’s Washington girls soccer game at Central Lee was a carbon copy of Thursday’s battle in Burlington, besides which end of the scoreboard the Demons represented. One night after a 4-0 shut out loss in Burlington, the Demons traveled south to play at Central Lee, and this time it was Washington walking away 4-0 victors. Both games saw two goals in each half.

FAIRFIELD — The second round of the Southeast Conference girls golf regular season took place in Fairfield on Thursday night, and much like three days prior, it was Mt. Pleasant representing the best. The Panther girls had the top score of all three Union area teams. Mt. Pleasant finished second, shooting a 214, which was just one stroke ahead of second place Fort Madison.

BURLINGTON — A handful of area golf teams competed at the 2025 Nike Invite in Burlington on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant, Winfield-Mount Union, Highland and Van Buren County were all in action. The big winner on the day was the Highland girls' team, which shot a 382 to win the meet by 30 shots.
