    MARTINSBURG — Last weekend, golf returned to Martinsburg with the opening of Van Metre 9 at Stonebridge. A soft opening was held Saturday and the pro shop officially opened Sunday, offering players the chance to play at the historic location for the first time in 13 years. In preparation of opening day, a total of 38 people were invited to play the course Saturday for the soft opening of the course. With temperatures soaring, many players stopped the course after playing nine holes of golf.

    MARTINSBURG — After a lengthy period of roundtable meetings, public comment and revisions, the Berkeley County Commission voted unanimously to approve the adoption of the amended Berkeley County Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance during a regular meeting Thursday. “It’s been a process to get this going through,” President Jim Whitacre said. At the meeting, there were no members of the public who addressed the commission.

    MARTINSBURG — On Thursday afternoon, the Berkeley County 250th Commemoration Steering Committee held a special dedication ceremony of the historic mural, “Roots and Horizons,” at Sunfire Energy Solutions along the Frog Hollow Trail. The dedication was led by Matt Umstead, steering committee chair, along with mural artist Lea Craigie. “If you look at these murals, what you see is what our community is,” Umstead said.

    MARTINSBURG — The Martinsburg Sunrise Rotary Club joined together for an installation ceremony at The Sycamore on Tuesday evening in advance of the end of the rotary year. In addition, several members who have been instrumental in the past year of service were recognized following dinner service. Each year, the club operates with a specific theme.
