    MARTINSBURG — The West Virginia Department of Agriculture confirmed Thursday the first detection of the invasive box tree moth, cydalima perspectalis, in Berkeley County, marking the species’ arrival in the state. So far, the moth has only been detected in Berkeley County and no other counties in West Virginia. Originally native to East Asia, the box tree moth has been spreading across North America since its initial discovery near Lake Ontario in 2021.
