    MARTINSBURG – For almost a year now, Jeanette Jones' food pantry, Planting Many Seeds, has been serving Martinsburg’s community. On Saturday, the organization is hoping to help even more families with a food giveaway. Since she started the food pantry last year out of a space in The Hub Suites on Queen Street in Martinsburg, it's started serving students at North Middle School, in a similar way to the Backpack Program but also working to provide food for the students' families back home.

    SHEPHERDSTOWN – For eight years now, Michelle Kwiatkowski, owner of Wild Rose Soap Co., has put together bags for local mothers in need on Mother’s Day. With help from local volunteers, including many homeschool, students she put together around 60 gift bags this year, filled with things like chocolates, socks, toiletries and hair ties, to deliver to teen moms with Young Lives Martinsburg and two Martinsburg-based homeless shelters.

    MARTINSBURG – A new program at the Berkeley County Humane Society is allowing participants to take a dog from the shelter on a day out, tagging along on trips like a walk or just a trip to PetSmart. Brandy Bender, BCHS manager, started the program after watching a shelter in another state implement it and see success, getting the community involved and even seeing some of the dogs get adopted by participants in the program.

    MARTINSBURG – West Virginia State Police arrested one suspect, 53-year-old Steven Tracy Beach, on Saturday after they found a body during a wellness check. According to a police report from the WVSP, state troopers went to carry out a wellness check at around 11:42 p.m. on Saturday night, when they observed a male lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. A trooper immediately contacted EMS. Soon after, another trooper encountered Beach in the house coming out of a bedroom.
