Starting this week, the city of Buffalo will be issuing several winter weather reminders through its BuffAlert system. The notification system provides weather and closure-related information to cellphones. To receive winter weather alerts, city residents can sign up by texting their zip code to 38276. The service delivers information in 66 languages including Spanish, Arabic, Karen, Swahili, and French. To access the language options, you can visit the city of Buffalo's website.

The Buffalo Small Business Assistance Grant Program is now accepting applications. Business owners must reside in the city of Buffalo to be eligible for the program. Other requirements include business owners must have 50 or fewer full-time employees, applicants must be the principal owner of a small business located in Buffalo, and applicants must live in one of the nine council districts.

A new feature on the Erie County District Attorney's Office websitewill allow residents to report information about scams or suspected fraud. District Attorney John Flynn said the new feature also allows residents who have been a victim of fraud to submit information directly to prosecutors through the site. This comes as the Erie County Sheriff's Office issued a public warning about scam calls where the caller is impersonating a member of the Sheriff's office.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is advising the public that some bus stops in downtown Buffalo will be temporarily closed due to maintenance work. Crews will begin replacing catenary wiring on the metro rail on Church and Main Street this coming Tuesday, Oct. 11, which will affect bus routes with stops at North Division and Main Street. Riders on bus routes 61, 64, and 66 can board at the number 20 stop on North Division between Washington and Ellicott Street.

The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team is offering free smoke detectors to Chautauqua County residents. Residents who would like to receive a smoke detector can visit the Sheriff's Office at 15 E. Chautauqua St. in Mayville, NY. There is a limit of two smoke detectors per household and are available until supplies last. Residents can also call 716-753-4254 or email [email protected] if they are unable to visit the office in person.
