A Santa Rosa man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a small dog, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Jeremiah Ortega, 26, was previously arrested April 3 on suspicion of possessing child pornography but was released after a court appearance, officials said. During their child pornography investigation, detectives found videos on Ortega’s devices that depicted him sexually assaulting a small dog, officials said.

Four days after the Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue put out a call to action for information after four otters were found dead along a Petaluma roadway in an “unusual” manner, the agency says it believes the animals were hit by a car. The otters’ bodies were found April 1, lined up along the side of Old Adobe Road, according to the initial post Friday on the center’s Facebook page.

Train horns blared and bells sounded while engineers in orange safety vests tested the SMART rail line tracks in Windsor Saturday ahead of opening the line to passengers. The testing, which is done to ensure the rail line passes all of the necessary safety checks, kicked off at the beginning of the month with switching equipment checks. Saturday’s test marked the first time a train operated on the tracks.
