June 18, 2025South Burnett councillors have unanimously approved a proposal by Triple R Motorsports to build a motor sport facility on a property in Lewis Duff Road at Ballogie. The vote was taken at Wednesday’s Council meeting after a decision on the Development Application was delayed at the May meeting. Council officers had recommended in May that the application be rejected but Councillors put up an alternative motion that it be approved, subject to conditions.

June 18, 2025The University of Queensland has developed five new commercial varieties of pigeonpea as a step towards the legume being grown more widely in Australia. A program at UQ’s Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) has developed the drought-resistant pigeonpea varieties for tropical conditions. Project lead Dr Mahen Sabampillai said the project could trigger a new industry in Australia.

June 18, 2025Large rate rises for 2025-26 were locked in by Toowoomba Regional Council at a Special Meeting held on Wednesday. Mayor Geoff McDonald said the TRC had adopted a general rate rise of 9.5 per cent for urban residential ratepayers, ie. about $241 a year. As well, the water infrastructure charge for an average property would also rise by $83.30. Mayor McDonald said a $1.5 million surplus had been forecast.
