Residents of a Sunshine Coast town have called on the local council to help address safety concerns along an increasingly busy road. Locals in Yandina appealed to Sunshine Coast Council to consider its options at Steggalls Road, a 1.3km route that connects the town's main street, Farrell Street, to Cooloolabin Road. A council spokesperson said the road was being monitored and the speed limit was reduced last year.

An $88-million plan that includes the expansion of nets and drumlines off South-East Queensland beaches has drawn fire from conservationists. The Queensland Government last week announced its largest investment in shark management: a four-year project including a roll-out of nets, drumlines, drone surveillance, whale-deterrent measures and expanded research.

Droves of people have expressed their concerns about the impacts of a tidal breakthrough at an island off the Sunshine Coast. Almost 1200 submissions were made to the state government during a community consultation phase for the Bribie Island breakthrough review. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said many people were worried about the area, after the ocean split the isle in early 2022 and created a volatile environment that included changed tides and shifting sands.

By A motorcyclist has been involved in a significant crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. The Queensland Ambulance Service responded to the incident at Curramore Road at Witta about 11.30am. A QAS spokesperson said it was a single-vehicle crash and they assessed a man who sustained traumatic life-threatening head injuries. Curramore Road is a hilly and sometimes-winding 15km stretch from Maleny-Kenilworth Road to the Maleny National Park.

A Sunshine Coast rescue crew has battled challenging conditions to rescue four people on a stricken boat 140 nautical miles offshore. Six Coast Guard Mooloolaba members endured a testing 31-hour journey on Mooloolaba Rescue, to help the crew aboard a 19m motor cruiser that had engine and fuel troubles. It was the service's second furthest rescue mission and it was launched just hours after personnel came to the aid of a 90-tonne tuna fishing vessel.
