In the 1996 Yankees Home Opener there were actually snow flurries, Andy Pettitte took the hill and the five-time World Series champion will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Thursday to get things started. PARKCHESTER, the Bronx (WABC) -- A young imam, who found himself the victim of a frightening attack carried out by men wearing ski masks outside his mosque in the Bronx, is speaking out about the ordeal. Ramadan brings Muslims to their mosque for prayer during one of the most sacred times on the calendar, but Sunday night in the Bronx, they were forced to fight. The imam, 22-year-old Omar Faruqe, stood next to his friend, who had a busted nose, on Tuesday, and described the violent encounter.

SHEEPSHEAD BAY, Brooklyn (WABC) -- People in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn are fired up about a homeless shelter going up in the neighborhood. Residents say they thought it was affordable housing. Things got heated at a board meeting on Tuesday night. The Sheepshead Bay community is riled up after feeling like they've been duped. "I got a phone call, 'Did you know that you gave the rights to a homeless shelter?' I said, what?" said Community Board 15 Chair Theresa Scavo.

MIDDLE VILLAGE, Queens (WABC) -- An 88-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were found dead inside a home in Queens on Saturday afternoon. Detectives were in and out of the home on the quiet tree-lined block on 80th Street near 58th Avenue in Middle Village. They say a firearm was recovered at the scene. Police first responded just after 1 p.m. They found the 57-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Police say there were no signs of trauma on the 88-year-old woman.
