The Arkansas women’s track and field team competed in the NCAA West First Round meet preliminary rounds Thursday, with 13 athletes securing their spots in Saturday’s finals for a chance to qualify for the June 11-14 national meet in Eugene, Ore. Competitors in the long jump, pole vault and the 10,000-meter race had the opportunity to qualify for nationals. The Razorbacks had three athletes advance — Funminiyi Olajide in the long jump, and Paityn Noe and Sydney Thorvaldson in the 10,000-meter race.

FAYETTEVILLE — Ed Servais has gotten used to some of the same line of questioning. In the final ride of his 22-year tenure as Creighton baseball coach, Servais has been asked about his career’s swan song. A 41-14 campaign has led the Bluejays to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional where they will open play against Kansas on Friday at 7 p.m. at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Walker, 6-7 and 290 pounds, of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna chose Arkansas over scholarship offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, South Florida, Central Florida and others.
