OLYMPIA, Wash. — The start of tolling for the Interstate Bridge Replacement project is only about a year away, and the Washington legislature is getting ready for the next step in the process: authorizing the sale of bonds to fund construction of the new bridge, to be paid back over time with the toll revenue. An authorization bill has been introduced the state legislature, and it picked up a notable amendment last week.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The trial of a former youth counselor in Clark County accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor patient came to an abrupt end Wednesday when the judge granted a motion from the defense to dismiss the case. Alicia Stowe, 36, worked at a now-shuttered Daybreak South Services residential treatment facility in Brush Prairie. She was charged in January 2023 with one count of first-degree sexual misconduct involving a minor.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability (BPS) is starting work on the next phase of a multi-year project to nearly double the number of public trash cans across the city. The phase kicking off this week focuses on Northwest Portland, installing 60 new bins. The city council voted in 2016 to expand Portland's public trash can program, which dates back to 1977.

PORTLAND, Ore. — TriMet is starting construction this week on an extensive renovation of the NE 82nd Ave MAX station, which the agency describes as one of the oldest and most heavily used in the system. The project will involve some service disruptions, but not until later this year. The first phase of work will be to construct a temporary platform immediately west of the station, which will take several weeks.
