We’ll meet all five of the finalists as well as bring you several other stories from the week. First, we’ll talk with the five finalists for the KELOLAND Sports Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Then, we’ll talk with the Augustana Acrobatics and Tumbling team who is finding some early success nationally.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ty France singled in the 10th inning to give the Minnesota Twins a 4-3 victory Wednesday over the New York Mets, who had rallied with a three-run eighth. With the speedy Byron Buxton conveniently on second as the automatic runner, France smacked a 1-1 pitch from Reed Garrett (0-1) with none out that bounced in center field with no chance for Tyrone Taylor to get his glove down.

MINNEAPOLIS (SDSU) — For the second time in eight days, South Dakota State and Minnesota battled down to the wire in a baseball game at Siebert Field. And for the second time in as many outings, it was the Golden Gophers who came out on top, posting a 4-2 victory Wednesday night. In extending its winning streak to seven games, Minnesota improved to 18-17 overall. SDSU dropped to 7-24 on the season.

LENNOX, S.D. (KELO) — Mount Vernon Plankinton Corsica Stickney would go on to snag the close 10-9 win over Lennox Wednesday evening. The Padres were up 10-6 headed into the home half of the seventh inning, and the Orioles would muster up three runs to put them within one come end of game. Mount Vernon/Plankinton would extend their win streak to three games. They’ll go on to host Garretson Monday, April 21. First pitch set for 1 p.m.

BRANDON, S.D. (KELO) — Two of the five Player of the Year finalists have been announced. Our third nominee is Brandon Valley’s Alyvia Padgett, who has become one of the top guards in the state. Alyvia Padgett earned a starting spot her freshman year where she learned leadership skills from the veteran players on the floor. “Hilary Behrens was here and was a great example for her, kind of showed her like, okay, this is what being a star looks like.
