The phrase “record turnout” was an overarching theme on election day, and Secretary of State David Scanlan confirmed it came true in New Hampshire. Of the Granite State’s roughly 1.4 million residents, around 1.1 million of them are of voting age. Across the state, Scanlan predicted 824,000 voters would turn out at the polls, which is about 75 percent. While the exact total is still being compiled, his office established that a new record was set.

CONCORD — The journey that began with Silvia Botha and her husband, Raul, seeking advanced healthcare for their oldest son years ago reached a new milestone as she raised her right hand and became a U.S. citizen during a ceremony Friday. While Raul celebrated his naturalization ceremony in March, Friday marked Silvia’s first official day as a U.S. citizen. The couple, originally from Romania, now live in Bow. The nonprofit Flying Yankee Association will soon own the historic Flying Yankee train with plans to relocate, preserve and restore it with the hope of someday running it again. The group announced Monday that the state had chosen its proposal as the winning bid for ownership of the silver-colored streamliner, which ended passenger service in 1955. The state has been reviewing proposals since a Jan. 4 deadline.
