CAMPTON, Ky. (WYMT) - The Wolfe County Wolves defeated Knott County Central, 2-1, to reach the program’s first-ever 14th region final appearance in school history. The Wolves scored a run in the first inning, followed by Knott’s run in the second to tie the game. The contest required extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Landon McWhorter singled on a grounder up the middle.

BAXTER, Ky. (WYMT) - Trent Noah and Ella Karst headlined the 2025 Frank Brittain Academic & Athletic Hall of Fame class on Tuesday, May 27. This year’s class also honored a team for the first time ever. The 2023-24 Harlan Co. boys basketball team and the 2023-24 Harlan Co. girls cross country team both finished as the state runner-up in their respective competitions for the first time in the county’s schools history.

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - The Floyd Central Jaguars advanced past the first round of the 15th Region baseball tournament after a 9-7 win over Pike Co. Central on Monday, May 27. The Jags led by four runs in the fifth inning until Pike Central pulled together a string of runs that tied the game at seven runs apiece. In the bottom of the sixth inning, a Pike Central error allowed two Floyd Central runs that sealed the game.

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - The Pike Co. Central Lady Hawks defeated Floyd Central, 4-0, in the 15th Region softball tournament opening round on Monday, May 27. The Lady Hawks built a 2-0 lead by the fifth inning. Senior pitcher Riley Spann led the way defensively from the pitching circle, only allowing one hit on the night. Spann also hit a double in the sixth inning. This play was followed by Belle Maynard’s two-run RBI double, which gave Pike Central a 4-0 lead.
