NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP)—The football preview roadshow heads southwest to Wallace to preview the Wildcats’ upcoming season. The Wildcats in 2023 went three and five on the season and are starting fresh under new first-year head coach Logan Paden. Wallace’s offense averaged about 37 points a game last season while only giving just over 25 points a game. Statistically, that should have made the Wildcats record over .500.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - People in North Platte rallied at Wild Bills Fun Center on Saturday for the first day of the Simpson family bowling fundraiser. Back in June, the Simpson family’s home was destroyed by a housefire that left multiple people seriously injured. Saturday saw friends, family, neighbors and strangers gather to the fundraiser. The bowling tournament featured many different styles, including men’s, women’s, mixed, and youth divisions.

The Old Depot is a vineyard and winery that opened in 2021 and serves a variety of wines and pizzas. In 2018, owners Jason and Sharon Axthelm purchased the building from the village of Brady, moved it to East Banner Road. They transformed the old passenger station into a winery.

The annual back-to-school event hosted about 50 different vendors from across the state to share information about their organization and what they do to help those in the community. Free haircuts and dental care were available to students who attended the event. Free bingo cards were also given out.

Many sweet corn stands have been popping up around the North Platte, with families selling their crops for the season. Mark Tilford is one of the many sweet corn vendors in town. Tilford grows his crop on one acre of land at his home between North Platte and Hershey and has been doing so for over three decades now.

(KNOP) - Train enthusiasts from around the world visited the North Platte Rail Days and had the chance to travel back in time to see what the Union Pacific Railroad used to look like. Hundreds of rails made way to Cody Park during the Friday, Saturday and Sunday Rail Days celebration. Over 150 people visited on Saturday alone to see the world famous Union Pacific Steam Locomotive Challenger #3977 and Union Pacific Diesel Locomotive Centennial #6922 at the Railroad Museum.
