    Great Plains Health’s Callahan Cancer Center is launching its new nine-week program supporting cancer survivors and their caregivers, GPH announced Monday. “Survivorship 101” will start June 3 and is 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday through July 29 in Conference Room C at GPH.

The Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center has long been a staple in North Platte for their child-focused approach to helping kids who have been abused or neglected.

    North Platte’s Steven Heinzle as the 2025 Mentor of the Year, by state-wide nonprofit Mentor Nebraska, recognizing his 25-year commitment to youth mentorship. Heinzle began his mentoring journey with Community Connections in North Platte after learning about the program during his time with the North Platte Jaycees. Since then, he has become a cornerstone of the mentoring community.

    The North Platte Public Schools Foundation announced the three distinguished alumni that will be honored at the Foundation’s annual “Evening of Excellence.”Those being honored are Angie Schneider from the Class of 1987, Melissa (Thompson) Poloncic from the Class of 1988 and Barbara Houser from the Class of 1972. This year's "Diamonds & Disco" themed event is July 25 at Venue 304. Tickets will be available through the NPPS Foundation website beginning in May.

    The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors will continue program reviews at the regular monthly meeting Wednesday. Members of the board will convene in McCook on the new East Campus located at 905 E. Seventh St. in room 225. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.Two of the college’s programs will be reviewed as part of a seven-year requirement for colleges. These include the graphic design and early childhood education programs.
