For a year and a half, Monisha Harrell served as Senior Deputy Mayor of Seattle – the number two position in the executive office. The last name she shares with the Mayor, Bruce Harrell, is no coincidence. Monisha Harrell is the mayor’s niece. Monisha Harrell was walking behind her uncle, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, in late 2022, when she overheard him say something to a colleague that stopped her in her tracks. “SDM Nazi.” SDM – she knew that was her. Rose Sanchez and her husband Jose Sanchez, shown here in 2019, said Mayor Bruce Harrell pointed a gun at them in 1996, outside of a casino in Iowa. Photo courtesy of Rose Sanchez Rose Sanchez may not remember every detail of the encounter between her family and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell from that late night in 1996. For example, she recalled Harrell driving a pickup truck outside the Ameristar riverboat casino in Iowa, when a police report stated he was in a red Jeep Cherokee.
