Kassidy Wilkie was a student athlete involved in a range of sports, from soccer and gymnastics to softball. In the months leading up to her March 24 suicide, Kassidy’s grades had been slipping, which resulted in a brief suspension from the Donegal High School softball team. But according to her uncle, Grant Wilkie, Kassidy seemed to be her normal happy self, even hours before her death. “No one really knew she was struggling with anything other than the normal teenage stuff,” Wilkie said.

Changing schools midway through high school – especially when it involves moving across multiple state lines – can be difficult for any teen, but Robert Ethan White saw it as a chance to reinvent himself. When he moved to the Penn Manor School District in Lancaster County in 2023, he decided he wanted to put himself out there more so than he had back in his previous school in Florida. That choice resulted in White becoming a self-published author at 18.
