Spokane CORE program hits two week mark

SPOKANE, Wash. — It's been two weeks since the launch of Spokane's Crisis Outreach Response and Engagement program (CORE), an initiative aimed at tackling crime in the city. Every day, an additional four to six officers have been patrolling downtown on foot and by bike, working alongside behavioral health co-responders. The city has also teamed up with I-2 Strategies and Revive Reentry to assist the homeless population in accessing housing and treatment services.

DEER PARK, Wash —A Spokane County Sheriff's deputy was seriously injured and stabbed during a welfare check today. According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. in the 24000 block of North Dalton Avenue. Deputies responded to reports of a woman acting erratically—walking through yards, climbing fences and shouting for help. Upon arrival in the 3900 block of West Wild Rose Road, deputies said they quickly requested emergency backup.

Winona Fire burns 3,000 acres, downgrading to Level 1 evacuations

Winona, Wash. — The Winona Fire in Whitman County has burned 3,000 acres with 0 % containment. Crews have released that they have gotten an "upper-hand" on the Winona fire. The Level 3 evacuations for the town of Winona have been lifted. They have been downgraded to a Level 1 evacuation for at least 24 hours. With a Level 1 evacuation residents and land owners can return to their homes and property, but are encouraged be prepared to leave the area again if necessary.
