    Aurora is hosting its first annual Pride Festival, with local Pride groups hoping it will start a wave of similar events throughout the region. The Pride Festival is an evening concert set for Saturday, May 31 at Aurora Town Square, in partnership with York Pride, ahead of the kickoff for Pride month, which runs throughout June. “I'm really excited, that Aurora is taking the lead on this and doing something different,” said Jacob Gal, program manager at York Pride.

    Aurora rugby players will have to wait a few more months till their new home is ready, as construction delays push back the opening of the Barbarians' new field. The rugby club had hoped to have its new turf field open for the beginning of May, at Sheppard’s Bush, behind the existing turf field. But as co-president Steve Hall looks out over the muddy field on a rainy May afternoon, he said that date has been pushed back to Aug. 6.

    While nowadays the sound and sight of trains rolling into the Aurora GO station are commonplace, 172 years ago it had never been seen. That was until May 16, 1853, when residents of Machell’s Corners – now known as Aurora – heard and saw a historic first, as the first steam locomotive came to the Aurora train station. Puffing along down the line on that initial journey north to Aurora was the locomotive steam engine Toronto No. 2, the first of its kind built in Canada, according to Metrolinx.

There’s one from the group's first year of competition, with the shelves increasingly filling up as they move forward in time. Now in 2025, the Aurora-based LEGO robotics team is quickly running out of shelf space.
