    An Aurora councillor said residents "should not be at all concerned” about her residency status and eligibility as a councillor, after she sold her house in Aurora in the fall. Ward 2 Councillor Rachel Gilliland sold her house in Aurora in the fall and bought a cottage in the Georgian Bay area. Pointing to this, resident Mike Zelyony flagged concerns about her residency status in an email to AuroraToday, and questioned whether it made the councillor ineligible to serve on council.

    While nowadays the sound and sight of trains rolling into the Aurora GO station are commonplace, 172 years ago it had never been seen. That was until May 16, 1853, when residents of Machell’s Corners — now known as Aurora — heard and saw a historic first, as the first steam locomotive came to the Aurora train station. Puffing along down the line on that initial journey north to Aurora was the locomotive steam engine Toronto No. 2, the first of its kind built in Canada, according to Metrolinx.
