The MTA is set to zoom in on drivers who recklessly speed through construction zones on its bridges and tunnels, and make them pay. As part of the recently approved $254 million state budget, Gov. Kathy Hochul and lawmakers agreed to expand an existing construction-zone speed camera program to the MTA’s seven bridges and two tunnels: the Bronx-Whitestone, Cross Bay, Henry Hudson, Marine Parkway, Robert F. Kennedy, Throgs Neck and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridges; and the Hugh L. Carey and Midtown Tunnels.

Brooklyn detectives are investigating a deadly stabbing on board an MTA bus in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon, police sources said. The horrifying incident occurred just after 2:37 p.m. on May 11 on a J90 shuttle bus temporarily replacing J train service at Crescent Street and Cypress Place in Cypress Hills. According to law enforcement sources, officers from the 75th Precinct found the 41-year-old victim, a passenger on the bus, with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

NYC buses are hotspots for fare evasion as the MTA continues efforts to eradicate the scourge that has resulted in millions of dollars lost throughout the public transit system. amNewYork scoped out two bus routes in Queens for about 45 minutes on May 10 and witnessed half a dozen passengers skipping the $2.90 fare, choosing to treat themselves to an illegal free ride while other passengers paid their fair share.
