    NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The annual downtown North Platte cleanup got underway in the Canteen District Tuesday morning as part of the Great American Cleanup kickoff. Volunteers were armed with gloves, brooms and trash bags to make a clean sweep through the district. It comes after North Platte Mayor Brandon Kelliher signed a proclamation challenging everyone to commit to picking up 25 pieces of litter.

    GERING, Neb. (KNOP) - A Wyoming man is dead following a motorcycle crash in Gering on Sunday. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the crash happened at 8:55 a.m. MT on Highway 71, north of the Highway 92 junction. A preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle, driven by David Tillman, 43, from Gillette, Wyoming failed to navigate a curve and left the roadway, rolling multiple times. Tillman died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

    LINCOLN, Neb. (KNOP) - A 20-year-old man from El Salvador was sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison last week after leading Nebraska law enforcement on a high-speed chase in stolen vehicles while illegally possessing firearms. Michael Alexander Ayala-Ramirez was sentenced to nearly six years in prison on one count of possession of firearms by a prohibited person. There is no parole in the federal system. After Ayala-Ramirez’s release from prison, he will start a 3-year supervised release.

    NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Fire crews responded to a grass fire south of North Platte Monday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched to South Dairy Road at around 12:15 p.m. for a report of a grass fire. Several rural volunteer fire departments are on scene working to put out the fire. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until mid-evening Monday. Temperatures at the scene were in the low 80s, with winds gusting up to 28 miles per hour. This is a developing story.
