The City of Launceston is currently seeking expressions of interest in relation to the future use of a historic school building on Frederick Street. Ownership of the building was transferred to the city in 1885 with the site most recently operating as a childcare centre. Councillor Tim Walker believes the building should remain in council hands, not sold, so it can be used by the community rather than private business.

Do you know much about shingles? This viral disease is caused by the reactivation of the same virus that causes chickenpox and presents as a painful, blistering rash on one side of the face or body. From next month, a new shingles vaccine will be free for older Australians and immunocompromised people  and it's meant to be more effective than the shingles vaccine currently available on the National Immunisation Program.

It's estimated that such injuries, which are also known as work-related musculoskeletal disorders, cost the Australian economy some $50 billion every year. Early voting begins today for the Voice referendum in Tasmania, meaning you can cast your vote from this morning at pre-polling booths across the state if you are unable to vote on October 14. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese believes that the vote outcome in Tasmania could play a key role in the success of the referendum, which he has supported from the start.

The northern Tasmanian city of Devonport could soon build more higher density housing, after the council voted unanimously to investigate the option at a recent meeting. The city's Deputy Mayor Stacey Sheehan is pushing for her council to investigate opportunities to encourage and promote higher density residential use developments.
