Donald Trump has announced a plan to impose 100 per cent tariff on films produced outside of the US. Australian film industry figures are clamouring for more details amid fears a tariff would undermine jobs and investment. The federal government says it will stand up "unequivocally" for the Australian film industry. The United States' proposed tariff on foreign-produced films would be a "kick in the guts" for efforts to turn the Gold Coast into a world-class movie epicentre.

The Gold Coast seat of McPherson has always been conservative. But among the city's three long-held beachfront Liberal seats, it may have the greatest appetite for an alternative. "Of all the seats on the Gold Coast, McPherson is the one where the Greens do particularly well," said former Queensland Labor politician John Mickel.

From his shop on the Gold Coast Highway, Jess Firkin watches construction of a billion-dollar public transport infrastructure project. It is a 6.7 kilometre stretch of light rail that will connect about 1 million passengers a month from the shopping precinct of Broadbeach to the stunning beaches of Burleigh Heads. A multi-billion-dollar project is on the table and the Gold Coast's mayor says the Queensland government is setting it up to fail. More than 92 million people have used the city's light rail but plans for its final stage is causing a rift between city leaders. The project runs along the rapidly growing city's coastal strip, from suburban Helensvale south to the Broadbeach tourist strip, with future stages expected to continue to Gold Coast Airport.

On acknowledgement, Gold Coast mayor said "it is not efficient. You've got all the staff there, everyone is per hourly rate, I don't waste a minute on other things. We do our prayer, we do our national anthem and we get on with our business." https://t.co/GpDi0tYLln

Odd to see at the Gold Coast #ClimateStrike (yes there was one), 3 of the 5 people who gave speeches were baby boomers. All of the young people I interviewed were eloquent, passionate, smart. Maybe give them the mic? @abcbrisbane #auspol https://t.co/7G44pSMDEn
