Police have descended on a Kirkby road this afternoon due to an incident inside a block of flats. Officers can be seen on Roughwood Drive, with a cordon across the entrance to Beech Rise. People living inside the flats on the road have been told they are unable to leave the building. Reports from residents in the area said blood is visible at the scene. Traffic has ground to a halt on the M53 this morning following a crash. National Highways confirmed the motorway has been closed due to a collision between junction five at Eastham and junction six at Ellesmere Port heading southbound. It confirmed Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are all at the scene, with traffic believed to have been held since 8.35am.

A "vibrant" teenage girl was found dead in her bedroom by her mum who'd last seen her doing her hair for school. Grace Billows was found unresponsive on the floor of her room at home in Bootle, Merseyside, last week on what had otherwise been a regular school day, her mum has said. The 15-year-old was seen getting ready on Tuesday, February 11, as mum Lisa left to take her other daughter, Alice, to a hospital appointment.
