DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - For people who are visually impaired, it can be hard to do everyday things that many take for granted. The Educational Center for the Visually Impaired helps people who can't see very well - or at all - have confidence they can do everything they need to do. Now, it wants to open a Decatur location to help more people. "We teach them new skills like the white cane and how to use an iPhone when they can't see the screen," said Peggy Dyson, the Executive Director of the center.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - May is 'Mental Health Awareness Month' and mental health professionals are stressing its importance as the month comes to a close. Mary Garrison, the President and CEO of Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur said, "One in five individuals experience a mental health issue each year that we know of."Still, many continue to suffer in silence because of the stigmas around mental health or not knowing where or who to turn to.

SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) - The next phase of the Prairie Fields project is ready to go after receiving grant money. With the money, the village will extend its multi-use pathway to more of the village, connection more people with the University of Illinois campus. Heather Mangian, a village trustee, said, "I use it to get to campus on my bike and I know others do, too."The Prairie Fields project is one of 66 projects throughout the state selected to receive the money from the state.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Graduation day at MacArthur High School Saturday did not go as planned. Many parents, grandparents, and friends were locked out of the ceremony after waiting in line for over an hour. "I think was the word that I in that moment was desperation," said Liz Alatorre, the mother of two young men graduating that day. "I was like, 'How do I get in there and see my kid?'"Alatorre says her family showed up 30 minutes before the ceremony was set to begin.
