He said one reason he wanted to open the location was because of the lack of businesses in the area. “It’s no secret to anybody in our town that my feeling of 61 South is that we have been, I hate to use the word depressed, but it has been a less than active area in the last 20 years,” he said.

Stewart made remarks at the graduation ceremony. “The main point of my speech was that time doesn’t stop and it is important to make every moment count,” he said. Stewart said he is optimistic about the potential of the graduating class.

The program, which the chamber operates, is a nine-month course in which professionals in the community learn leadership skills. During the course of the program, the 20 students were split into four groups.
