    Published 10:58 am Wednesday, June 11, 2025 Vicksburg’s June 3 municipal election produced tight results in the races for mayor and Ward 2 alderman, with challengers Willis Thompson and Vickie Bailey, respectively, coming out on top. Those results were officially certified by the Vicksburg City Clerk’s office Wednesday. After counting all affidavit and mail-in ballots, Thompson defeated incumbent Mayor George Flaggs Jr. by 76 votes. Willis garnered 1,795 votes, while Flaggs secured 1,719.

Vicksburg City Clerk Deborah Kaiser-Nickson said she expects final results to be certified Friday. Thompson defeated longtime Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. by 61 points, while Bailey defeated incumbent Ward 2 Alderman Alex Monsur by 75 votes.

    Published 6:59 am Sunday, June 8, 2025 A fire that reportedly broke out early Sunday morning in a storage area in the building housing 10 South restaurant, The LOFTS apartments and Trustmark Bank in downtown was quickly squelched by Vicksburg Fire Department and resulted in no injuries or major damage, Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said. “At approximately 3:21 a.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department confidently responded to a reported structure fire at 1301 Washington St.,” he said.
