Published 9:43 am Saturday, December 30, 2023 Tornado levels Rolling ForkLife in Rolling Fork was turned upside down March 24 when an EF5 tornado struck the South Delta, leaving 17 people dead —13 in Rolling Fork — and causing widespread destruction in the South Delta. According to a preliminary report from the National Weather Service, the storm was classified as a “high end EF4” tornado with winds of 195 mph.

After 44 years as a journalist — the last 12 spent here at The Vicksburg Post — I am putting away my computer, clearing out my desk, handing back my keys and retiring. Friday, as members of the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen and her family and friends looked on, Deborah Nickson was sworn in as Vicksburg city clerk, replacing City Clerk Walter Osborne who has retired. “It is my highest honor to swear in Deborah Nickson as city clerk of the City of Vicksburg,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said before administering Nickson’s oath of office.
