MILTON - With an evening event in Milton on our schedule we decided to get a bite to eat beforehand and left a little early to find a restaurant. Fortuitously, we discovered Lucy's Hideaway, on the outskirts of Milton and less than 10 minutes away from our destination. Just a little off the beaten path, we have driven by their sign before, saying "Let's stop someday" so it was the perfect opportunity to check it out. Lucy's is a large bar/restaurant with plenty of parking and room for a band.

WILLIAMS BAY - Daddy Maxwell's in Williams Bay is a long-time favorite local eatery with an eclectic array of owners. Originally a frozen custard shop called Arctic Circle Diner, it was built in an igloo shape and opened in 1949. Its iconic shape was used to remind us Wisconsinites of our cold winters - if that was even necessary. It changed owners in the 1960s, late 80s, and again in 2023, recently reopening this past December.

When My Neighbour Totoro was released in Japan in 1988, the odds were stacked against it. Such was the lack of confidence in Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘50s-set story about two young girls and a giant forest spirit that the film had been tacked onto another Studio Ghibli film — the considerably darker _Grave Of The Fireflie_s — in a bid to win over financiers. However the power of Totoro persisted, and today it’s one of the most celebrated animated films of all time.

DELAVAN – On the outskirts of Delavan, the Wagon Wheel has gone above and beyond preserving their historic restaurant and bar. Just like an “up north” Wisconsin vacation, we drove down country roads to find the popular log cabin bar. It comes with real wooden walls, Friday fish fry, a great bar, and friendly atmosphere. Log slabs in an intricate, bark-edged pattern is what we first noticed upon entering the intimate, low-lit bar/lounge.
