    LE MARS — The 26th edition of the Plymouth County Fair collectible truck recognizes businesses and organizations which are a part of the fair. The 2025 edition of the Plymouth County Fair truck salutes the Farmers Cooperative of Craig and woodcarvers Blair Smith and Scotty Toben and the Del Kellen family. The truck is designed and produced by Albert Schulz, of the Le Mars Toy Store. The driver’s side of the trailer features a picture of a Farmers Cooperative truck and some of its employees.

    LE MARS — After 37 years of teaching instrumental music, Le Mars Community Middle School band instructor Mary Kay Benton has decided it’s time for the next generation to take over. “I’m the lone remaining long-term music staff person left, so just time for new blood all around,” Benton said. Benton has spent 34 of those 37 years at LCMS, where she was director of the middle bands, and also taught sixth grade general music for a few years.

    LE MARS — The Le Mars City Council’s second Town Hall meeting of the year brought residents and Le Mars Fire-Rescue Department personnel on Monday evening to the Le Mars Fire-Rescue Station #1. Mayor Rob Bixenman called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m., and said the meeting was a time for open discussion, and not solely about the fire station plans. He opened the floor to citizen comments.

    LE MARS — People will gather at Memorial Day services on Monday, May 26, across Plymouth County and the country to remember the sacrifices of United States men and women who have served their country in military service through the decades. Plymouth County American Legion and V.F.W. posts will join with others in holding services in communities across the county. Displays of flags will honor deceased veterans in several communities.

    LE MARS — A small group of law enforcement members and others gathered on Wednesday, May 15, at Calvary Cemetery to honor a fallen peace officer, Samuel H. Hamilton, with a headstone on what was an unmarked grave. That was the culmination of work by Stu Dekkenga, former Le Mars Police Chief, Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte and Lynn Steckelberg, a retired Plymouth County Sheriff’s deputy and a volunteer with The Last Gift, in telling the story of Hamilton.
