Lubbock Regional for the NCAA softball tournament (Friday games): - @BrownU_Softball at No. 12 Texas Tech, 530 pm - Washington-Mississippi State, 8 pm First postseason appearance for the Bears since 1997. Ivy League tournament champions matched against a Big 12 power.

Lucas Giolito against the Royals: - 49% 4-seam fastball - 22% slider - 19% changeup - 10% curveball He was a combined 97% 4-seam fastball/changeup last outing against Texas. Could have been the rain, health, feel -- anything. This was a needed, encouraging adjustment today.

Lucas Giolito needs to at least show a third pitch. Fastball-changeup -- if it's not premium velocity and noticeable separation between the two -- isn't going to cut it more than once through the order. Texas is taking some good swings. The Red Sox are in a 5-0 hole.
