Marion County plans to reduce its workforce by 32 positions. Polk County plans to eliminate nearly four positions. Both county boards of commissioners are scheduled to adopt their budgets on June 25. Many counties in Oregon, including Polk County, are facing budget deficits, but Marion County is not. Both counties, however, are proposing cuts for the budget year that begins July 1.

A crash closed Interstate 5 southbound about 3 miles south of Albany on the afternoon of June 6 and one northbound lane was also closed. The southbound I-5 crash happened at milepost 231, which is about 3 miles north of the exit with Highway 34. The I-5 northbound crash was also reported at milepost 231. No estimate was given for when the southbound lanes would reopen. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. The crash occurred at 4:06 p.m., according to the Albany Fire Department.

A juvenile connected to a May 29 shooting incident in Eugene that forced a nearby high school into lockdown was arrested June 5 in Salem after a standoff involving SWAT and bomb squad teams. Salem's SWAT and bomb squad assisted Eugene police in the arrest at a home in south Salem after he did not exit the house. The juvenile was taken into custody shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the home, located on the corner of Arlene Avenue and Clarence Court.

A Salem man was sentenced to 13 years in federal prison on June 4 for manufacturing and selling products including candy and cereals with THC and psilocybin in them. Jered Jeremiah Hayward, 45, pleaded guilty on Jan. 29 to two counts of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana and conspiracy to commit money laundering. While on parole, he operated a business that employed 10 employees, according to court records.
