    Offshore construction specialist Allseas has unveiled a 5-year plan to begin using nuclear power via integration of small modular reactors (SMR) both on land and aboard its vessel fleet. SMRs are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit—about one-third of the generating capacity of traditional nuclear reactors—and can produce a significant amount of low-carbon electricity.

    Newly minted owner of veteran floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Petrojarl I Amplus Energy, headquartered in Aberdeen, has tapped Spain’s Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to carry out a multimillion-dollar reactivation program on the unit. The acquisition of the FPSO from UK-based Altera Infrastructure was announced in February of this year and just recently closed. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal marked Amplus Energy’s entry into the FPSO market.

    The Pacific Energy Corp.-led Woodfibre LNG project reached a major construction milestone with the safe arrival of the first seven LNG modules to the facility site. The hardware delivered comprises pipe rack modules transported by heavy cargo vessel Biglift Baffin and are the first large-scale modular components to arrive at the site for installation. Woodfibre LNG CEO Luke Schauerte called the arrival of the modules “a significant step forward” in diversifying Canada’s energy export market.
