AbstractCytomegalovirus (CMV) is a globally endemic latent herpes virus that profoundly impacts T cell immunity. We investigated the oncological consequences of CMV infection across 341 prospectively recruited patients receiving immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) for melanoma. CMV+ patients with metastatic melanoma (MM) have higher lymphocyte counts, reduced neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and divergent CD8+ T cell gene expression.

The degree of corporate earnings manipulation, proxied by discretionary accruals using financial statement data, has been empirically shown to be strongly associated with stock returns and yet with opposite signs in the aggregate and in the cross-section. Firms with high discretionary accruals (i.e., substantial upward manipulation) earn abnormally low future returns compared with firms with low discretionary accruals (e.g., Sloan 1996, Teoh, Welch, and Jun Wong 1998, Xie 2001).

IntroductionOn 3 May 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) strategic preparedness and response plan for 2023–2025 that emphasises the significance of establishing an evidence base regarding the post-COVID condition [1, 2]. Emerging data show that ∼50% of COVID-19 survivors experience long-term respiratory sequelae, such as chronic dyspnoea, cough and reduced lung function [3–5].

AbstractChiral tertiary alcohols are privileged structures found in numerous bioactive molecules and pharmaceutical agents. However, general and efficient synthetic methods for forming α,β-stereogenic tertiary alcohols bearing two or more contiguous stereocentres are rare.
