SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - One of the first big plumes of Saharan dust has made its away across the Atlantic, and is now settling in overhead. This will keep the upper atmosphere dry for the weekend, limiting chances for thunderstorms across the state. A ridge of high pressure has also moved in from the east, and its axis has established itself just to our south.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - After a few days of heavy rain things have quieted down considerably across Florida. High pressure is building in behind the storm system and this will stay with us through the weekend. We can expect to see a lot of sunshine through the weekend along with some hazy skies. That haze is a result of Saharan dust from Africa moving in overhead and drying things out. Friday we will see highs along the coast in the mid to upper 80s and inland areas warming into the low 90′s.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - After multiple days of widespread heavy downpours, the rest of the week promises to be drier and sunnier. The low-pressure systems that have been giving us this rain will start to move away to the northeast tonight. They will still be close enough to give us some showers and storms overnight tonight, but by Thursday morning the threat for widespread rainfall will have passed.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - An upper-level low over the northeast Gulf and an area of disturbed weather to the east of Florida will continue to create conditions favorable for scattered showers and storms on the Suncoast throughout the day Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon will again be the wettest part of the day, but scattered rainfall is possible throughout the day. Isolated minor flooding will be possible under any thunderstorms in low-lying areas with poor drainage.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - An area of low pressure over the N. Gulf of Mexico will not be moving much over the next couple of days. This system will continue to pump up some very moist air from the south. This in combination with the storm system will bring periods of showers and some thunderstorms on Tuesday. The rain could get heavy at times as a series of disturbances moves into our area. Rainfall rates could exceed an inch per hour.
