    Dr. Bobby Corrigan, a world-renowned rodentologist and a fellow Pest Management Professional (PMP) Hall of Famer (Class of 2008), coined the term “rogue roof rats” for Rattus rattus individuals that require extraordinary means to be eliminated. Some never get caught and seem to leave on their terms instead. There is a private home in a nice neighborhood. The pest management professional (PMP) has been there more than 20 times in an attempt to get this rat, with no success.

    When my parents opened the doors of their small pest control business in San Antonio, Texas, just after World War II, they focused on their customers. They grew the company into a group of regional branches serving Texans across the state. ABC Home & Commercial Services remains family-owned and carries on my parents’ commitment to service. Much has changed since I moved to Austin, Texas, in 1983 to expand our business here.

    Over 100 years ago, the maxim “comparison is the thief of joy” was used by our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt. While I agree with the premise of this quote, we do need to compare wisely our business to others to understand how we can do better. The opportunity to improve based on what we see and hear from others must be done cautiously. Like most people, companies are most apt to share what they are most proud of, and many tend to embellish the information.
