    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Rapid City rock band ‘Granite Sun’ won their group in the first round of Rolling Stone’s America’s Next Top Hitmaker competition, and they’re currently second in the subsequent round. The winner will get $50,000 and a chance to perform at the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in New York City. According to singer and guitarist Josh Marquis, the band isn’t exactly sure how they ended up in the competition. Despite this, they’ve done well in the first two rounds.

    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Sacred Storm Buffalo opened its doors to the public with a grand opening Saturday. The group processes and sells affordable buffalo meat in North Rapid, with stated goals of giving young Lakota men job opportunities in meat processing and combatting food insecurity. The business is named for Founder & CEO Chris White Eagle’s late granddaughter, who tragically passed away in 2022. ”Her name was Aiko Storm, so this was in remembrance of her,” White Eagle said.

    RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Rapid City Police arrested FedEx Driver Zachary Mauss, 36, Wednesday after the man reportedly crashed a delivery truck into the Sewing Center on Knollwood Drive. Police say Mauss blew a .382 on the scene of the crash. Mauss faces DUI and reckless driving charges. This isn’t the first time an allegedly impaired driver crashed into the building. A man reportedly high on duster struck a similar spot in 2016.
