Man killed by train in McDowell County

GARY, WV (WVNS) — A man from McDowell County was killed over the weekend in what is being investigated as a fatal train/pedestrian incident. According to Sheriff Muncy with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, the report came into their office around 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 31, 2025, near the Davy area of McDowell County. Once on scene, deputies and a responding state trooper found a man dead. How exactly the man came into contact with the train and died was not released.

GHENT, WV (WVNS) — The National Weather Service has issued multiple tornado warnings and watches for counties across southern West Virginia. Tornado watches were issued for the entire WVNS region in southern West Virginia. The watches include Mercer, Greenbrier, Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Pocahontas, Monroe, Wyoming, and McDowell Counties. Tazewell County, Virginia is also under a tornado watch. The tornado watches are expected to end at 8:00 PM.

Patching project to alter traffic on Robert C. Byrd drive for months

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A concrete patching project is expected to alter traffic patterns for months in Raleigh County. According to Mountaineer Contractors, the company overseeing the project, the concrete patching will take place on Robert C. Byrd-WV 16 from mile posts 15.44 to 16, near the Macarthur Bridge. The project is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 29, 2025, and is expected to take four to five months for the patching to be completed.
