The face of Portland's legal community is changing. See which Portland-area law firms are the most diverse this year. Portland-area law firms grew more diverse over the last year on almost every front according the the PBJ's latest law firms survey. Women lawyers increased from 37.6% of firms' staff in 2024 to 42.9% this year, while BIPOC lawyers (Black, Indigenous and people of color) rose from 9.5% to 11.5%.

Portland's commercial real estate market recently endured historically high downtown office vacancies and an onslaught of empty retail spaces, yet its commercial construction market — including industrial, warehouse, mixed-use and multifamily properties — continued to build new projects and remodel existing buildings.

Two-thirds of lenders on The List were locally based and they employed 5,669 workers in Oregon and Southwest Washington among 17,808 nationwide. Despite continued high interest rates, many Portland-area businesses have still been able to access loans. In fact, among the 24 banks, credit unions and other lending firms that responded to the Business Journal's survey for The List of commercial lenders, dollar volume held in Oregon and Southwest Washington at the end of 2023 rose 21% to $7.4 billion.
