CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coastal Bend baseball and softball teams are honoring someone this season who meant a lot to the community on and off the field. Cody Perez, a former Moody baseball player and Bishop coach, died in a car accident in August 2023. The crash happened on Farm to Market Road 70—tragically taking Perez from the community and players he helped in baseball and life. Perez was just 29 years old at the time.

ROCKPORT, Texas — Del Mar College is one step closer to opening their Workforce Development Center in Aransas County. The Del Mar Board of Regents selected a contractor on Tuesday to renovate the former Little Bay Primary School in Rockport. SpawGlass was selected as the general contractor for the $2.5 million project. Del Mar Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Lenora Keas said the development center will offer courses next school year.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Fire Department is making efforts to replace their aging fire stations. The new Fire Station 3 on Morgan Avenue is nearly ready to be moved into from the previous decades-old location. First responders there will not be moving far. The new station's location is just across the street. During construction, service to the community remained the same as they responded to calls from the current Fire Station 3.

SAN ANTONIO — The NCAA Men's Final Four was played on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio and college basketball coaches had one more reason to be in town. The NABC Convention at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center also happened in conjunction with college basketball’s biggest stage. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local boxer is celebrating her first title and did it while shuffling around work and school outside of the ring. "It was a lot of early mornings, late nights, but I still managed to keep my education a priority," Del Mar College student Kennedy Contreras said. Contreras balances practicing her punches with working as a dental hygienist. She earned an associate's degree from Del Mar in 2023 and takes online classes toward a bachelor's degree now.
