LAMESA, Texas (KCBD/Gray News) - Texas authorities are investigating a crash that killed one of their deputies. According to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jessie Perez died Thursday after debris from a passing vehicle hit him during a traffic stop. The crash happened near W. US 180 and N Ave. V in Lamesa. Texas troopers say the debris came from a passing commercial vehicle.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit says 22-year-old Victor Yanez turned himself in at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Yanez was wanted for murder in connection with the shooting death of 38-year-old Joshua Rios. Officers responded to a report of shots fired just after 2:00 a.m. in the 1800 block of Clovis Rd. on Monday. When they arrived, officers found Rios with serious injuries. Rios was taken to UMC, where he was later pronounced dead.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - There are now 541 confirmed measles cases in the South Plains region since the outbreak began in late January. The Texas Department of State Health Services reports 56 of those patients have been hospitalized since the start. According to the DSHS, fewer than 30 of the confirmed cases are “estimated to be actively infectious.”DSHS says the following counties have ongoing measles cases: Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lynn, Lamar, Lubbock, Terry and Yoakum.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A child has died after suffering a gunshot wound in the 2900 block of East Bates Street on Wednesday evening. The call came in at 5:21 p.m.The child was taken to UMC by EMS where they were pronounced dead. No details yet on how the child was injured. We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more.
