A local man was indicted on federal charges for allegedly robbing the Westfarms Sunglass Hut at gunpoint in July. A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted Willie White, 58, who has lived in Bristol, New Britain and Hartford, on Wednesday in connection with the July 15, 2024, robbery at the West Hartford mall, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Marc H. NEW BRITAIN — A New Britain woman pleaded guilty to defrauding federal COVID relief programs of more than $230,000Victoria Kates, 34, of New Britain, pleaded guilty Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Hartford to two counts of wire fraud, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

BRISTOL – Another change to how motor vehicles are assessed for property taxes will put more than $1.5 million more in the city’s budget for next year. Towns across the state saw a major drop in their motor vehicle grand lists after a new state law changed how their values are assessed. In Bristol, the motor vehicle grand list dropped by $77.54 million – nearly 15% – as a result of the change.
