WEST LINN, Ore. (KOIN) — There aren’t many people who have had a more interesting college football journey over the last year than West Linn native Mark Hamper. In fact, Hamper said if someone told him a year ago about what was about to happen he would have said, “‘Gosh, the genie must’ve popped out of somewhere’ because I never would’ve imagined this.”AdvertisementHamper didn’t get offered a scholarship by Idaho until December of his senior season.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The response is what you’d expect when asking Sam Leavitt how the last year of his life has been. “It’s been pretty crazy,” reflected the West Linn alum. Even the biggest of college football fans didn’t know Sam’s name going into last season. AdvertisementHe played four games at Michigan State his freshman season, redshirted and then transferred to ASU. From there, all he did was lead an Arizona State squad no one saw coming to a College Football playoff berth.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Back in 2023, the OSAA approved boys volleyball as an emerging sport, playing its first OSAA season in the spring of 2024. A season later, and there are now 70 schools with teams — well past the 50-team threshold the OSAA needs to fully sanction the sport next fall. “I will probably cry and jump for joy all at the same time,” said Central Catholic head coach Sharlene Alagar if boys volleyball does indeed become a fully-fledged OSAA sport.
