RUSK, Texas — An investigation involving the Rusk’s police chief cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. After nearly a month on leave, CBS19 has since learned through an open records request, the City of Rusk paid $8,145 in legal fees to Iglesia Law Firm. This investigation is all surrounding a complaint made against Rusk Police Chief Scott Heagney. At least five officers were interviewed during the investigation, according to an invoice.

One year later, the fallout related to Coffee City disbanding its police force -- amid allegations of questionable hiring practices -- remains ongoing.
