DALLAS — For the first time ever, the Dallas Mavericks have won the NBA Draft lottery, and their first pick is expected to go to the basketball pride of Maine, Cooper Flagg. Its an honor the Mavericks have only bestowed onto one other player before, Mark Aguirre, who was the number one pick in 1981 before the draft lottery existed. From 1981-1989 Aguirre was an all-star multiple times, and received MVP votes in those years. The Cowboys have had a few first overall picks too.

TYLER, Texas — Eight East Texas students crossed the stage on Tuesday, marking a major milestone — graduation from Project SEARCH, a program that empowers students with disabilities by teaching them essential job skills and independence. "I'm excited to keep going, keep working and keep the way that people with disabilities can do amazing things. Thank you," graduate Jorge Vega said while giving the graduation speech for the 10th class of Project SEARCH.

The reception will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the organization's headquarters on 822 W. Front St. in Tyler. According to a news release, the event will provide guests the chance to meet Manley, network with fellow community leaders and learn more about the work being done at Habitat for Humanity of Smith County.

KILGORE, Texas — Kilgore High School's Health Science SkillsUSA chapter is hosting its fifth blood drive of the 2024-2025 school year on Wednesday. The blood drive will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school's health science classroom. The blood drive is done in partnership with Carter BloodCare. This blood drive lets Kilgore's health science students gain hands-on leadership and healthcare experience.
