Hirsch graduates top of her class at Moua Institute of Massage

What started as a path to a side job has ended up with one local massage therapy student coming out at the top of her class. When she graduated on Monday, June 10, McKenzie Hirsch was the Valedictorian of her class at Moua Institute of Massage in Miles City, ending her education with a sense of pride and excitement for what is to come in her new career. A native of Miles City, Hirsch said he initially didn’t intend for massage therapy to become her main career choice.

This summer is going to see some hot competition as the annual Cowtown Cook-off is set to return this month. Cowtown Cook-off is an annual event that pits teams of barbecuers against one another every June, challenging locals to bring their best recipes and see who can make the best summer-time meal. Food preparation starts on Friday, June 14 and competition ends on June 15.

Though competition in some primary races was fierce this year, participation in Tuesday’s elections was much more tempered in Custer County, as only about 41% of voters cast ballots. In total, 2,829 votes were cast on June 4 out of 6,931 registered voters. Voter turnout across the state was also quite low, with only about 41% of eligible voters casting ballots across Montana, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

When voters hit the polls on Tuesday, they didn’t just vote for candidates, as three local issues were also present on the ballot and now with results available, it looks as though there won’t be any significant changes coming to how local governments operate. Two of those issues, the authorizing of local government study commissions for both the City of Miles City and Custer County ultimately failed, however the reauthorization of a mill levy for economic development in the county was passed.
