Lochaber TimesNewsPolice are treating a deliberate house fire in Fort William as attempted murder. Officers were called to a blaze on Wallace Place in Fort William at about 12.50am on Friday. A woman and a girl were inside the house but they were not injured, while some nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution. Detectives are now looking for two men who were seen in the area at the time.

Vandalism at Mossfield Stadium in Oban:Two thoughts immediately spring to mind. First - and I’m sure most of you would echo this - is why the vandals do their damage in the first place. What goes through their useless minds that motivates their awful behaviour? I suspect I will never understand that. The second thought was prompted by the story last week detailing the campaign to have CCTV cameras installed at the venue to deter and identify the lowlife culprits.

FIFTY YEARS AGO: Thursday April 24 1975Farewell dinner of Fort William Town CouncilThe Burgh of Fort William marked the end of an era in local government with a farewell dinner in the Alexandra Hotel. Guests included town council staff, past and present members of the town council, and others who had played a prominent part in the life of the burgh over the years. As they arrived they were greeted by Provost G. K. B. Henderson and officials, wearing their crimson robes of office for the last time.
