WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - A concerned Westlake resident emailed the fire department after they found what they believed was an “old WWII grenade and 2 anti-aircraft shells” in the basement of a home they had recently purchased. Officials immediately emailed back, warning the resident not to touch the munitions. The Westlake PD/Westshore Bomb unit was contacted. Once officers made phone contact with the resident and learned where they lived, the bomb squad was dispatched.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland State University announced that it has been given its largest gift ever by an individual donor in the school’s history. The almost $15 million gift comes from the estate of Katherine and Walter McCombs. Mr. McCombs is a 1976 graduate of the CSU College of Law. CSU was the only school to offer him a scholarship.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - A woman is under arrest after she dropped off a purse and made disturbing comments at the Marc’s on East Waterloo Road in Springfield Township Wednesday. Police said a woman dropped off a purse and said, “You better watch out, it might explode,” to a customer. Out of caution, officers evacuated Marc’s and neighboring businesses in the plaza. The Summit County Bomb Squad was called to assist after an investigation, but no explosive device was found.

WOOSTER, Ohio (WOIO)—A mobile home was flattened Wednesday morning after a contractor hit a gas line while installing fiber optic cables at a mobile home park in Wooster. The explosion happened around 1130am at Shelmar Mobile Home Park, on Mechanicsburg Road. Judie White lives across the street from the home and was told she had to evacuate her home before the explosion. “Thank God it wasn’t me, that’s honest,” White said.

OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - Fire broke out at an Olmsted Township residence on Eastwood Lane Wednesday night. Olmsted Township fire(WOIO)Fire got the call about 7 p.m. When crews arrived, they found the garage on fire. Firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to the home.
