LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) - A 17-year-old male died from his gunshot injuries after being flown by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as J’Zier Gaddy, of Lorain. Lorain Police said officers responded for a call of shots fired around 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11 in the parking lot of the 1100 block of Tower Blvd. When they arrived, a 21-year-old Lorain man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The driver who fatally struck a seven-year-old Cleveland boy riding his skateboard will be sentenced Thursday. In March, Donald Mynatt, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to stop after an accident, a 3rd degree felony, for the death of Amir Maclin.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A 23-year-old Cleveland woman pleaded guilty to setting a house on fire last December. Shamara McCoy pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated arson. As part of the plea deal, a second count of aggravated arson was dismissed. Shamara McCoy((Source: Cuyahoga County Sheriff))Cleveland Police said McCoy set fire to a home on Lamontier Avenue on Dec. 26, 2024. There were no injuries.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Liv’s Law officially goes into effect in Ohio Wednesday, one day after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 37 into law. Liv’s Law tightens up drunken driving laws and increases penalties for drivers charged with aggravated vehicular homicide involving OVI. The bill is named after Olivia Wright, 22. Wright, known as Liv, was hit and killed by a drunk driver on Sept. 29, 2020 in Franklin County. Liv’s parents, Bryan and Teresa Wright, fought for the bill for years.

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - An 18-year-old accused of killing her brother-in-law in February was indicted by a Stark County Grand Jury. Money Baccus was indicted on the charges of aggravated murder, murder, and felonious assault. Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 12, police got a 911 call about a shooting at a home in the 1900 block of 2nd St. SW. When officers got on scene, they found Shawn Hawkins, 30, with a gunshot wound to his chest.

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The 34-year-old man accused of a fatal stabbing at an Akron group home has been found incompetent to stand trial at this time. Jarel Wooden was previously indicted on the charges of murder and felonious assault for the Nov. 16, 2024 attack. According to court documents, Wooden will now be transported to Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital to undergo treatment to see if he can be restored to competency.

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 62-year-old Plain Township man found guilty in February of multiple sex crimes against children is scheduled to be sentenced in Summit County Court of Common Pleas Monday. Charles Link’s jury trial began Feb. 25 in front of Judge Joy Malek Oldfield and the jury reached a verdict Feb. 27. They found Link guilty of seven counts of rape and eight counts of gross sexual imposition.

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - The girlfriend of the Elyria man who escaped police in handcuffs was taken into custody Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Friday. Petra Pintar, 20, was arraigned on a felony charge of obstruction of justice in Lorain Municipal Court. A judge set her bond at $250,000. The charge was filed on Feb. 11, the same day she was reported missing. 19 News is still working to find out if these charges are related to the fugitive investigation.

BRUNSWICK, Ohio (WOIO) - New video from the Brunswick Police Department shows the moments after a man allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend while she was at work at Dollar General. On Tuesday, Arthur Velasquez pleaded not guilty, and a judge set his bond at $5 million. The judge also ordered him not to have contact with the victim.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - A car accident victim has a truck driver to thank for saving her life. Officials say the driver, a 28-year-old woman, was traveling on Interstate 90 West near W. 44th Street around 2 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and it flipped on its side, trapping her inside. “The lady was unconscious in the driver’s seat,” Charles Lowe said. It was a scary situation for Lowe, a truck driver who saw the accident as it happened.
