KEARNEY — A multi-vehicle accident occurred on the street in front of Kearney Catholic High School during the late morning hours of Tuesday, April 15. At 11:24 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, CHI Health Good Samaritan EMS and the Kearney Police Department was dispatched to E. 35th St. near Kearney Catholic High School due to the report of a multi-vehicle accident. MAYWOOD — Jury trial dates have been set in the case of the Maywood Public Schools superintendent charged with felony child abuse. Mark Bejot, 64, has been charged with committing intentional child abuse – no injury, a Class 3A felony and false reporting, a Class 1 misdemeanor. Frontier District Court Judge Patrick Heng set the case for a three-day jury trial starting on July 28 at 9 a.m. A pre-trial hearing has been set for July 14 at 8:30 a.m.Bejot has filed bail in the amount of $4,500.

HASTINGS — The Hastings city council approved tax increment financing assistance for the Trailside Village project which aims to add new homes in northeast Hastings during their meeting on Monday, April 14. The Hastings Community Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of Queen City Development, LLC, applied for the Trailside Village Redevelopment project. The goal is to construct 31 new dwelling units on the vacant parcel that is generally located southeast of the intersection of East 31st St. and W.

KEARNEY — After extensive discussion, the Kearney Public Schools board of education voted, 4-2, to cap dual credit enrollment at 25 hours during their meeting on Monday, April 15. A vote on dual credit enrollment had been on the March school board meeting agenda but the board members had voted to table the matter until the April meeting to allow for further discussion. Some of the changes included that “students may not enroll in more than two middle school classes during any one semester.
